My best thought for a line here would be to shuffle, dig into the draw triggers until you would hit a damage trigger, and mill yourself again before it resolves. With Syr out, there will be 1 damage triggers mixed in with all of those draw triggers, so if you try to draw your library like that you'll probably die. Before they resolve, you do the same thing again, until you have enough draw triggers to draw your entire deck, at which point you continue on to win. The standard way is to mill the library until you hit an Eldrazi, which puts a bunch of Gitrog draw triggers underneath the shuffle trigger. My issue with Gitrog in particular is their method to draw the library. To play through Syr, Gitrog (or any other combo) wants to combo off on Syr's turn turn (or on the turn of any player after them and before Syr). If Gitrog is going off on their turn with Syr out and they mill Kozilek, the shuffle trigger will always be resolved after the damage trigger. The AP's triggers are added to the stack first, which means they're resolved last. What's the line to avoid them?ĮDIT: GAH, the fact that each ability triggers on a slightly different thing makes it really difficult to evaluate this card correctly.Īctually, if you want triggers to be stacked in a way to ignore your opponents' triggers, you have to not be the active player. (Only 1 damage, because he only triggers on creature cards leaving your graveyard.) Unfortunately, that can also be beaten with APNAP rules, although I do feel like forcing certain opponents to go off on your turn is still nice, especially if they're more constrained in how they play out their combo.Ĭan Gitrog actually APNAP through it? I was under the impression that it had to stack a bunch of draw effects near the beginning, which would force them to go through all of the Syr triggers as well. For reanimation loops w/ Blood Artist, Syr deals 2 damage per reanimate (a creature leaves the battlefield and one enters the battlefield), so if all of the triggers are resolving, the player with the lowest life will die first. Good point about Twister, I think I conflated it with Tasigur by accident. Gah, how did I miss the best mono-B commander in my searches?
